PSG 1-2 Real: Los Blancos cruise to quarter-final - FCNaija

Real Madrid defeats Paris Saint-Germain 2-1 on Tuesday night at the Parc des Princes in the UEFA Champions League of the last 16 of the

second-leg encounter. And qualified to the quarterfinals on the aggregate of 5-2.

Los Blanco's advance to the quarter-finals of the tournament the eighth season in a row to see off Les Parisiens Cristiano Ronaldo headed home as  Marco Verratti's dismissal effectively ended the game for the home side, although Edinson Cavani found the net. A strike from Casemiro did end the match, securing his side's place in the last eight.

First Half 

Real Madrid move forward as Marco Asensio make a stunning pass to Cristiano Ronaldo, who plays the ball back into Karim Benzema, but the forward's effort is deflected over the home side's crossbar.

Another half-chance for Real Madrid as the ball breaks for Benzema inside the PSG box following good work from Lucas Vazquez and Ronaldo, but the Frenchman's effort is deflected over the crossbar for Los Blanco's corner.

Asensio whips the corner into the box and Sergio Ramos makes contact with a strike at the near post as PSG keeper Alphonse Areola makes a brilliant reaction to save the ball, while Thiago Silva on the slide prevents Raphael Varane latching on to the rebound.

Kylian Mbappe surges into the final third and draws the foul from Ramos 30 yards from goal. Di Maria seizes the ball and lines up a strike as Real Madrid Ramos rises highest in the wall and is able to divert Argentina's ball to safely past the post.

Marcelo releases Benzema in the 39 minutes as PSG defence in the left inside channel with the Frenchman advances into the box, but sees his low effort blocked by the feet of Areola.

PSG work their way around the Madrid backline as Alves and Verratti combine to open up space for Di Maria as former Manchester United winger takes a poor first touch and is only able to fire a tame right-footed strike at Real Madrid goalkeeper Keylor Navas, who gathers at the second attempt.

Mbappe latches on to a pass from Alves in the right side with Cavani in support in the middle, but the young striker goes for goal from a tight angle but Navas turns it behind and Cavani is furious with his team-mate.

Second Half 

The Uruguay international Cavani slides pass back to Thiago Motta on the edge of the box and he strikes at goal on his left foot, only to sky his effort over the bar.

Real Madrid moves forward as Marcelo finds the head of Ronaldo with a brilliant cross, but the number seven's effort just drops wide of the post.

PSG right-back Alves loses the ball in the midfield to Asensio and he combines with Vazquez down the left flank and Spanish star who latter swings a dangerous cross to the back post that Ronaldo attacks with a powerful header, nodding his effort between the legs of Areola to make 1-0 for Real Madrid in the 52 minutes of the encounter.

Yul Berchiche has space down the left and he fires the ball across the face of goal. Cavani gets a touch and forces Navas into action. The rebound favours the visitors as Varane hammers clear.

Cavani attempts an acrobatic effort on goal after good work by Kylian Mbappe but the Uruguayan's effort deflects behind for a corner.

PSG are reduced to 10 men as Marco Verratti picks up a second yellow card for having a go at the centre referee Felix Brych as the midfielder was furious at official had not whistled for a free kick, and the home side are now a player down against the European champions.

Asensio looks for the dagger as he latches on to a Marcelo cross, but he smacks his low volleyed effort off the post.

PSG are back in the contest as It is a bit of a mess inside the Real Madrid box as Pastore's header hits Casemiro before deflecting against Cavani, and it ends up in the back of the net to make 1-1 in the 71 minutes on the game.

Marcelo cuts the ball back into the middle for Ronaldo to strike, but he sees his effort clatter off the post.

Draxler sends the ball out wide for Pastore, but the Argentine overhits an early cross into the box, sending it over the bar.

Isco goes for the drive from distance, but Areola continues his solid outing with a fine diving stop.
