Barcelona midfielder Ivan Rakitic has aimed a sly dig at the current reigning World best footballer Luka Modric after Lionel Messi’s classic display against Tottenham Hotspur in the Champions League at the Wembley Stadium.

Messi was in a scintillating form against Mauricio Pochettino’s men on Wednesday evening, the Barcelona forward scored two goals in the 4-2 win against Spurs and was also denied by the pole on two occasions.

Rakitic scored a stunner against Spurs, he also praises Messi after the match and he insisted that the Argentine forward proved his status as the world’s best.

He says: ”With respect to all the players who are winning, we know that there is a guy who is very different from the others and he is Leo Messi.

"With all due respect to others, there are circumstances that a player like Luka Modric marks an impressive season, but Luka and everyone else knows that there is a player who is different and this is Leo Messi.”

Messi has scored 10 goals in all competitions, including five in La Liga and five in the Champions League

Rakitic and his Barcelona teammates will take a trip to Mestalla on Sunday to face Valencia in their upcoming La Liga clash.
