Sergio Ramos and Fyodor Smolov both grabbed braces for their respective sides as 2018 FIFA World Cup hosts Russia came from behind twice to deny Spain their second consecutive win in November during Tuesday's 3-3 draw at the Krestovskyi stadium in an international friendly game.

Another Jordi Alba goal after his strike against Costa Rica last week and a Sergio Ramos penalty gave Spain a 2-0 lead, but Russia pulled one back just before half-time through Smolov.

Aleksey Miranchuk brought the Russians back on level six minute into the second period but their celebrations were cut short by Ramos two minutes later. Ramos took advantage of another rather soft penalty call to send his spot-kick to Lunev's left after the referee spotted an infringement in Russia's box when a free kick was flighted in.

Smolov who was one of Russia's outstanding players during the Confederations Cup struck again to restore parity with 20 minutes left on the clock. The goal proved decisive as it denied the 2010 World champions their second win of the November international window.

Suso made his Spain debut on the right of their attacking trident after he emerged as one of Serie A’s top talents, thanks to his performances for Milan over the past year.

Elsewhere for Julen Lopetegui’s side, David de Gea was back in goal and Nacho Fernandez replaced Alvaro Odriozola at right-back, while Rodrigo Moreno and Marco Asensio joined the former Liverpool attacker up top.

This was Spain’s first-ever match in Russia since the dissolution of the Soviet Union in 1991, with the two teams’ last meeting – a 3-0 win for La Roja – coming in the Euro 2008 semi-finals.
