Leicester City manager Claudio Ranieri was full of praise for debutant Wilfred Ndidi following his side’s 2-1 away win against Everton in the third round of the FA Cup.
The 20-year-old joined the Foxes at the start of the January transfer window and after 48hours he was primed for his first game.Read Also | Wilfred Ndidi excited with Leicester debut
Ndidi excelled in the game as he won the midfield battle against Gareth Barry and Ross Barkley which allowed compatriot Ahmed Musa romped forward and grabbed a match-winning brace which were his first strikes for 2017.
Ranieri was delighted with the performance of Ndidi and reserved some words of praise for him at the end of the match.
“Ndidi trained just two training sessions with us but played with fantastic personality. He recovered a lot of balls and played well. For 20 years old to make his first game against Everton, it’s unbelievable.”
The Leicester City manager also praised the general display of his team and he is already looking ahead to the clash against premier league leaders Chelsea.
“I’m very pleased with our performance,” Ranieri said at full-time. “We wanted to win and we wanted to go through in the FA Cup, which is an important competition.
“Then [we wanted to go through] even more because we lost to Everton at home, so we wanted revenge. It was a good match because of course at the beginning Everton pushed a lot and wanted to score a goal, but I’m very pleased with our performance before and after the goal.
“When we conceded a goal, everybody wanted to react immediately. After there were chances for them and us, but it was a very good performance.”
He added: “It’s (the win) important if we need a result against Chelsea because there is a good momentum. “We won against West Ham, we drew against Middlesbrough and we won here. It’s good.”MORE | VIDEO: Watch Ndidi's first post match interview at Leicester
