Real 1-3 Juve: Ronaldo late penalty puts Los Blancos through

Cristiano Ronaldo was the hero of the night for Real Madrid despite  Los  Blancos' 3-1 defeat to Juventus in the second leg of their quarter-final clash at the Santiago Bernabeu on Wednesday night.

Juventus opened the deadlock in the second minute through Mario Maduzukic header as the Italian brought the game close to Real Madrid.

Juventus squandered an opportunity to get the second goal but goalkeeper Keylor Navas was up to the task to deny the Italian Champions.

Gareth Bale back-heel went off target as Real Madrid threatened to get the equaliser, the host broke on a swift counter atter initiated by Dani Carvajal but isco was unable to apply the finishing touch to it.

Juventus remained composed in the opening 17 minutes of the clash.

the away team made the first substitute in the 17th minute as Stephan LIchtsteiner replaced Mattia de Sciglio. Tension began to flair up as Carvajal caught up with Mandzukic as the Real Madrid defender was booked for a foul. Real Madrid continued to enjoy a lot of ball possession via Isco, Luka Modric and Toni Kroos.

Real Marid played in a free-kick through Kroos but Marcelo was unable to get the right contact on the ball. Isco flashed a ball wide the mark.

In the 34th minute Ronaldo set up Isco but the Spanish was unable to beat Juventus goalkeeper Gianluigi Buffon.

Real Madrid conceded the second game through a header from Manduzukic header as Navas failed to prevent the ball from entering the net.

Real Madrid was denied by the crossbar in the last minute of the first half as Real Madrid stumbled in the first 45 minute of the clash.

Real Madrid changed made a double substitution as Zinedine Zidane replaced Lucas Vasquez with Casemiro and Marco Asensio for Gareth Bale at the start of the second half.

Juventus looked more composed once again as Real Madrid struggled to find their balance with the Italian giant. The host continued to push on for the home goal but Massimiliano Allegri's men remained determined in the defensive area.

Real Madrid was not creating enough threat to disturb the Italian defence. Ronaldo was denied again in the 57th minute as Buffon did well to prevent the Portuguese forward from scoring.

Real Madrid goalkeeper Navas was called in action again but failed to deliver after he let a ball slip off from his hand to as Blaise Matiuidi tap it into an empty net in the 61st minute as the away team scored the third goal to restore parity at the Bernabeu Stadium.

Juventus continued to dictate proceedings as Real Madrid look feeble and weak in the attack.

The pressure is on Real Madrid to score a goal and prevent Juventus from scoring another away goal as it is all square at the Santiago Bernabeu.

Douglas Costa stopped Real Madrid counter-attack as he was booked by the referee in the 73rd minute.

Matteo Kovacic was brought in for Modric in the in the 74th minute of the tie as Real Made their final substitute.

Isco made an attempt but Buffon was equal to the task. Buffon performed brilliantly to denied the home team the needed goal.

Real Madrid added pressure on the away team but Juventus looked solid defensively to silent Los Blancos attack.

Juventus conceded a late penalty as Buffon was dismissed in the final minute and was replaced by Wojciech Szczęsny as Ronaldo converted the spot kick to book a place for Real Madrid in the semifinals.

With the result Real Madrid advance to the quarterfinals with a 4-3 win on aggregate.

Real Madrid joined Bayern Munich, Roma and Liverpool in the semifinal round of the top continental competition.
