Real Madrid 3-1 PSG: Ronaldo and Marcelo silence Neymar

Cristiano Ronaldo grabbed a brace and Marcelo last-minute goal was enough to give Real Madrid the win in the first leg of the second round of the Champions League at the Bernabeu

Real Madrid pushed for an early goal as Cristiano Ronaldo fired a shot in the second minute but his effort went off the target.

Marcelo pushed forward and a good combination with Karim Benzema in front of PSG goal but the defence was solid enough to nullify the attack.

Both sides continued to show their attacking prowess in the opening seven minutes, both sides are yet to make a decent attempt.

Real Madrid continued to push PSG in their half but the away team remain sharp on the counter-attack, PSG had a decent attack after Neymar controlled a long ball in Real Madrid box but Nacho was at the spot to make the clearance.

Neymar was shown a yellow card after a harsh challenge on Real Madrid defender Nacho in the 14thminute.

Real Madrid continued to make use of long pass in a bid to capitalize on the speed of their forward line.

Ronaldo missed a chance to put Real Madrid ahead in the 27th minute but PSG goalkeeper was equal to the task.

Neymar wasted a chance to put PSG up but he wasted the chance.

Adrien Rabiot gave the PSG the lead in the 34th minute after a decent cross from Kylian Mbappe. Ronaldo got a chance to equalized for the home team but his effort went wide.

The home team pushed forward in a bid to level terms but the defence of the away team prove too solid for Real Madrid to crack down.

PSG goalkeeper was equal to the task when Benzema fired in a long-range effort to the top angle, Real Madrid was back into the game after Toni Kroos was fouled in the box as the referee awarded a penalty to Real Madrid.

Ronaldo made no mistake to power in the penalty in the 45th minute of the match to bring back Real Madrid into the contest.

Real Madrid started the second half with an attacking move in a bid to get a goal as Marcelo took the responsibility upon himself, PSG had the opportunity to go head but Mbappe’s effort was saved by Keylor Navas.

The away team resisted the threat of Real Madrid as they began to come into the second half gradually, but the host continued to imposed control over the visitors.

The host had more possession but failed to utilize the advantage, Ronaldo had a change score from a free-kick but his effort was blocked by the wall of defence of the away team.

Zinedine Zidane made his first substitute as he withdrew Benzema for Gareth Bale in the 67th minute.

Neymar’s shot was blocked by the referee in the 69th minute but the game continued to flow after just a minute of interruption.

PSG show no sign of tiredness as they continued to pose more attacking threat in the 73rd minute. PSG missed a clear chance to get their second goal in the 75th minute.

With 11 minutes remaining Zidane made a double substitution as he removed Casemiro and Isco for Lucas Vazquez and Marcos Asensio respectively.

Ronaldo got the second goal for Real Madrid in the 83rd minute to put Real Madrid ahead and Marcelo got the third goal for Real Madrid in 86th minute and helped Los Blancos move up with a two goals advantage.
