Brazilian defender Marcelo is set for a bench role against Mexico in the round of 16 in the World Cup after he was forced off in Brazil 2-0 win against Serbia in their last group game.
The Real Madrid defender was replaced with Filipe Luis and the Atletico Madrid defender is expected to retain the starting spot when the Selecao face Mexico in the second round.

"I cannot have unknown variables in this match, he could be hiding something, but he came to training, he wants to participate, he shows the commitment as a team player and might be able to feature for 45, 60 minutes."

Tite said he is seeking a similar performance from his team to the one that saw them account for Serbia.
