Several players were linked with a move to Real Madrid during the last summer transfer period and this winter also, during the last summer, the likes Kylian Mbappe, David de Gea and Eden Hazard to mention but few were the big names linked with the European Champions.

And the like of Pepe, Fabio Coentrao, James Rodriguez, Alvaro Morata, Danilo, Sergio Diaz were also linked with other clubs at the time of the summer transfer period.

Surprisingly, Real Madrid was unable to get any of their targets all through the summer with the club having to settle with their current crop of players who just delivered the Champions League for the second time in a roll and also winning the La Liga for the first time in the last five years.

Despite, missing out on their prime targets in the summer transfer Real Madrid let go of Pepe who moved to Besiktas, James Rodriguez went to Bayern Munich on loan, Danilo was sold to Manchester City, Coentrao was loan to Sporting Lisbon , Sergio Diaz was sold to Lyon and most notable one was the release of Alvaro Morata to Chelsea and holding on to misfiring Karim Benzema.

With Real Madrid relying on the young lads from Real Betis( Dani Ceballos), Atletico Madrid (Theo Hernandez), Wolfsburg ( Borja Mayoral returned from loan), Eintracht Frankfurt ( Jesus Vallejo returned from loan) and who were short of the expectations expected from them and subsequently blew up the season on half way.

Now fast forward to this winter Real Madrid has seen the need to add some quality to the ranks and let go some of the players that failed to improve during the course of the season.

Chelsea midfielder Eden Hazard, PSG attacker Neymar, Manchester United goalkeeper David de Gea, Athletic Bilbao goalkeeper Kepa Arrizabalaga, Inter Milan striker Mauro Icardi, Tottenham striker Harry Kane and AC Milan defender Leonardo Bonucci have all been linked with the club this winter but it is highly unlikely for any of this player to switch to Bernabeu this winter as a result of Real Madrid coach  Zinedine Zidane ruling out the possibility of any arrival in the mid-season transfer.

Real Madrid president Florentino Perez is also ready to listen to offers for his want-away players with the future of Cristiano Ronaldo, Karim Benzema, Gareth Bale, Keylor Navas, Raphael Varane, Lucas Vazquez all in doubt at the Bernabeu.

Any suitable offer that matches the demand of the Perez will see him cash in on the player with immediate effect so as to create room for the new arrival.

PSG and Chelsea have been linked with Ronaldo,  Arsenal has returned to the pursuit of Karim Benzema and also want to bring Vazquez to the Emirate Stadium.

Manchester United has been pushing for a deal to sign Real Madrid duo of Gareth Bale and Raphael Varane. The Old Trafford boss Jose Mourinho is a fan of the French defender Varane since his time in Real Madrid and wants the centre back to reunite with him in England.

Real Madrid has a silent transfer in the last two seasons, they have not spent big on any players for a while and have sold big to earn some cash to cater for their little spending.

I think a large budget will be available for next season signing if they want to get their targets as the signing of Neymar or Eden Hazard won’t come that cheap.

Real Madrid need to bring in a quality player that can cover the space left behind by each outgoing player.

Taking a look at Navas he is on the decline it is just the right time to bring in a world-class goalkeeper like De Gea to replace him.

Theo Hernandez needs to be given more playing time to get the confidence need to play in a team like Real Madrid, with the La Liga almost out of chase I think Zidane should give the former Atletico Madrid player more minutes especially in home games in front of the club’s fans, and Ramos should be paired with a more experienced defender like Bonucci.

Ronaldo has lost his pace, yea the pace is gone but he instinct to score is still there and this was evident when he played as a false nine in the most of the games last season. The Portuguese forward needs to know he is not getting younger, Ronaldo should be pushed to the centre-forward at the expense of Karim Benzema and Bale should play from the left flank and Marco Asensio should operate from the right flank in a 4-3-3 formation.
