“The combativeness and selflessness of the players have been key to qualifying and winning today against Ivory Coast,” said the national technician at the post-match press conference.
“We maintained our philosophy of play. We did not want to change anything compared to our last games. It was necessary to continue to press and force the opposing team to lose the ball,” Hervé Renard said.
“Thanks to our solidarity and our pressing, we managed to disrupt the Ivorian players,” he added, noting that the players have managed to play an “exceptional” match to win many duels.
“In the pre-match talk, I told them (the players) that there was the 1980 generation (1986 World Cup), the 1990 generation (with the 1994 and 1998 World Cups), and that now it was up to them to enter history. They did it brilliantly, “he said.
He also expressed his pride, as well as that of his players, that “the Moroccan flag returns to the World Cup”. “This is the fifth qualification, so Morocco is not a small football country”.
“I am certainly a fulfilled man. The return will be exceptional. These are unforgettable moments. I am lucky to live them. I certainly have a good
star. But I’m especially happy for the fans who made the trip, “he said.
“Imagine for a moment that they made the trip for nothing. There are those who made sacrifices. They came with all their heart, from very far, “said Renard.
Noting that this is the culmination of a long-term work, the national coach said that “when I took office, I had to change the state of mind of the Moroccan fans” since Morocco did not manage to “qualify for the CAN and the World Cup”.
