REPORT: Real Madrid star Modric set to sign new deal

Reports in Spanish media says Real Madrid midfielder Luka Modric is set to extend his deal at the Santiago Bernabeu to put an end to the speculations surrounding his future.

Modric’s deal expires in 2020 and he has been subsequently linked with a move away from Bernabeu with Inter Milan leading the race to sign the veteran midfielder.

Modric signed for Real Madrid in 2012 from Tottenham Hotspur and struggled to get into Real Madrid first team during his initial year at Bernabeu, he was termed as the flop of the season after a poor performance for the Los Blancos but the Croat rewrite his history after he begins to adjust to the game in Spain.

Modric helped Real Madrid to win four Champions League, a La Liga title, Copa del Rey and three FIFA Club World Cups in 290 games played so far.

His performance for Real Madrid last season and Croatia in the World Cup saw him break the hold of Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi on the Ballon d’Or award in 2018 and he was also included in the FIFA FIFPro World XI on four different occasions

According to the reports by Marca, an agreement has been reached between Luka Modric and Real Madrid to increase his contract until June 30, 2021.

The reports also claim that the midfielder never considered leaving the club despite being linked with Inter Milan during the recent weeks.

Despite being 33, Modric is still an important player for Real Madrid and is likely to extend his stay at the Bernabeu Stadium. He played 23 LaLiga games thus far, scoring two and assisting four goals.
