Ronaldo shows support for a Barca player over transfer issue

Real Madrid forward Cristiano Ronaldo has shown his support for a Barcelona player over transfer issue with the Camp Nou hierarchy.

Andre Gomes is deemed surplus to requirement at the Camp Nou despite being signed just 12 months ago from Valencia as the Portuguese midfielder does not feature in Ernesto Valverde’s plans and the coach is keen to get rid of him.

Ronaldo was shocked to learn that Gomes isn’t wanted by Barcelona. It’s suggested the duo discussed his predicament while they were on international duty with Portugal according to reports.

Despite Barcelona’s desire to get Gomes off the books, they aren’t willing to sell him on the cheap, considering the amount of money spent on his acquisition last season, he was signed on the clutches of Real Madrid last summer with a transfer fee of €35 million, plus €20 million in add-ons from Valencia.

The former Valencia midfielder failed to attain the height of his Valencia playing days thereby finding first team action hard to come by last season.

Juventus were serious suitors for his signature but the two clubs couldn’t agree on a fee during the summer transfer window, according to Don Balon.

The Italian giant was initially keen to secure a loan deal for Gomes with a purchase option but the Camp Nou outfit rejected the offer and Juventus tabled £18m Barcelona feel the cash was ridiculous and they stop the negotiation with the Italians.

Premier League sides West Ham and Tottenham were also sniffing around on deadline day as loan move to London was mooted, but Barcelona insisted on penalty clauses if Gomes didn’t play in the first-team.

Gomes now looks set to play a peripheral role at the Nou Camp this season, he has played 30 games for the club, scoring three goals since his arrival at the Camp Nou.
