Former Real Madrid director of football and AC Milan coach Arrigo Sacchi has slammed Paris Saint-Germain over their back to back defeat against the European Champions.

Sacchi assessed the Ligue 1 leaders and he labelled PSG a "very weak opponent".

PSG was unable to turn around the game against Real Madrid and they failed to advance to the quarterfinals on Tuesday after suffering another defeat in the hands of the European Champions after they were primed for a comeback against the title holders in Paris.

PSG was without Neymar who suffered a broken metatarsal against Marseille just a few days into the clash and Marco Verratti was sent off as Ronaldo and Casemiro gave Real Madrid the needed victory to advance to the next stage on 5-2 aggregate.

And Sacchi, winner of back-to-back European Cups with AC Milan in 1989 and 1990, took aim at mega-rich PSG post-match.

"Real faced a very weak opponent," the 71-year-old told Mediaset.

"PSG are only a group of players. The word 'game' may be abstract, difficult to describe but it has made all the difference tonight.

"Ideas cannot be bought… PSG are missing a lot of things."

With the result, PSG might not renew Unai Emery’s contract at the end of the season with Chelsea manager Antonio Conte and Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger linked with his job.

Sacchi added: "Emery is a very good coach. He just needs the club behind him, and especially as the players follow his ideas.

"In Europe, you need the mentality but also the game. The game is like the score of a music and the scenario of a film."

PSG will entertain Metz on Sunday in the Ligue 1 while Real Madrid will take a trip to Ipurua to face Eibar in the La Liga.
