France is rocked by the sudden death of Le Havre defender Samba Diop, aged just 18, leaving the club shell-shocked.

Ligue 2 broke the tragic news on Saturday morning, saying they are as yet unsure of the cause of death.

A club statement said: "This is a horrible moment for all the players, staff members, volunteers, administrators and leaders."

According to local media outlet Paris-Normandie, Diop was found unconscious on Saturday morning at home.

The French football league said that Saturday's Ligue 2 game between Le Havre and Reims has been postponed, with a "moment of silence" to be observed at all matches in the top two divisions this weekend.

Diop was a part of Le Havre's reserve team where he made 21 appearances for B team this season in the fourth tier and he was also the vice-captain of France's Under-19 side.
