See a high earner in the NPFL: He earns thousands of dollars

Alhassan 'Muazam' Ibrahim is one of the highest earning players in the Nigeria Professional Football League.

Players in the Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) may not earn as much as their counterparts in most European leagues, or even in the South African Premier Soccer League or in North Africa, but one thing that is for sure is that the players in the NPFL are doing badly for themselves at all.

At least by Nigerian standards, many players in the NPFL earn good money, running into six figures, and in very few cases, seven figures monthly.

One of the very few, and probably the only one in the seven figure category is Godwin Obaje, who earns a reported two million naira monthly at FC IfeanyiUbah. He is the top earner in Nigeria’s top division, but there are quite a few players who come somewhat close. Maybe not too close.

But one of those with a good pay packet is Alhassan Ibrahim, popularly known as ‘Muazam’. The lanky striker earns six hundred thousand naira per month at Akwa United (almost $2,000 when converted by the official rate), and is the highest earner at the Uyo-based club.

‘Muazam’ is a former Nigeria U17 and U20 striker, who switched to Akwa from Wikki Tourists at the start of the current season. The 20-year old was previously at four hundred thousand naira at Wikki, before getting the bump in pay when he switched sides.

He has had trials at a few clubs in Europe especially in Sweden, but nothing concrete have come from any of them.

While what he earns is pittance to what most players in Europe and North and in South Africa earn, but it is an impressive sum by Nigerian standards.

However, he is not alone in earning that sum, as Super Eagles and FC IfeanyiUbah goalkeeper, Ikechukwu Ezenwa is also believed to be earning six hundred thousand naira monthly at the Anambra Warriors.
