Serie A was not left out of the weekend of surprise wins and defeats across Europe, as champions Juventus lost their footing in their bid to claim another title. Milan was another side who suffered a setback, as they took on rivals Inter in the Derby Della Madonnina.
Napoi consolidated their position at the top of the log, with Maurizio Sarri’s side looking the part in this early stages of the season.
We take a look at how it went down over the weekend in one of the most iconic leagues in the world.
Roma 0-1 Napoli
Leaders Napoli showed they mean business this season as they went to one of the toughest grounds in Serie A and picked up a win that consolidated their standing at the top of the table. Lorenzo Insigne’s 20th minute strike was all that was needed for them to continue their impressive start to the season.
Inter 3-2 Milan
Mauro Icardi scored a hat-trick – with the third being a 90th minute penalty – as Inter inflicted another defeat on their city rivals, to pile more pressure on Vincenzo Montella. Luciano Spalletti’s side have now up to second with the win, while Milan languish in 10th, despite the huge investments in the summer.
Juventus 1-2 Lazio
Simeone Inzaghi’s Lazio proved the 4-1 bashing handed to Milan weeks ago was no fluke, as they stunned Juventus at the Allianz Stadium. Douglas Costa had given the champions an early lead, but a brace from Ciro Immobile meant the Old Lady suffered their first defeat of the season and sit third, five points adrift of Napoli at the top.
Bologna 2-1 Spal
Cagliari 2-3 Genoa
Crotone 2-2 Torino
Sampdoria 3-1 Atalanta
Sassuolo 0-0 Chievo
Fiorentina 2-1 Udinese
