Barcelona forward Luis Suarez has blamed his team’s poor defending against Liverpool as the main reason for their shock Champions League elimination at the Anfield on Tuesday evening.

He was particular about the fourth goal as the La Liga outfit was caught unaware by a quick short corner routine by Liverpool.

“We looked like a youth team when defending the fourth goal,” Suarez lamented afterwards, as cited by Marca.

“We must be aware of all the criticisms that are going to come our way now and there is a lot of time for self-criticism within our team.

“These sorts of things cannot be allowed to happen at a club of Barcelona’s stature, we cannot be making the same mistake twice.

“Liverpool did what they had to do from the first minute to the last but for us, we are now very sad because we are professionals and we feel pain.

“We did not play as a team and must ask for forgiveness.”

Suarez netted in the 3-0 first leg win but struggled to make a similar impact upon his return to Anfield as the La Liga crashed out a style similar to last season against AS Roma.
