Goalkeeper Ikeme named in Nigeria World Cup squad

Super Eagles players have reacted to Carl Ikeme after announcing his retirement from football on Friday.

The 32-year-old Wolverhampton Wanderers goalkeeper played a key role for Nigeria during the qualification stage of the 2018 FIFA World Cup as he was the first choice shot-stopper before he suffered acute-leukemia which ruled him out of action.

Ikeme called time on his football career after consulting medical experts following his battle against acute leukaemia and the Nigeria International post on his Instagram to thank everyone. 

Leicester City forward, Ahmed Musa, wrote on Instagram.

Super Eagles vice-captain Ogenyi Onazi also wrote: “Thank God for your life and your health, this is most important bro   @carlikeme.”

Daniel Akpeyi who was one of the Super Eagles goalkeepers to the 2018 FIFA World Cup also wrote: “Thank God you got your life back bro, better things ahead.”

John Ogu added: “Thank God for restoring back you Health. And Good luck with your next Chapter.  .”

Victor Anichebe wrote in response to Ikeme’s post on Instagram: “One door closes and another opens. Good Luck with your next chapter. God bless.”

Leicester City forward Kelechi Iheanacho said, “Gods grace will always be with you Carl, you will be remembered.”

Arsenal midfielder Alex Iwobi said, “God Bless Big Bro ❀️”
