Marcus Rashford was the hero as Manchester United secured a place in the semifinal of the Europa Cup with a 2-1 win against Anderlecht at Old Trafford.
It wasn't all great for United as the victory came with a a heavy price with Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Marcus Rashford picking up heavy injuries.
The Red Devils got off to a great start as Henrikh Mkhitaryan opened scoring after receiving a pass from Marcus Rashford and blasted the ball past Ruben in goal for the away side.
United were encouraged by the start they made and poured forward in search for another goal and nearly extended the lead but Paul Pogba’s header was spectacularly saved.
The goalkeeper was again called into action as he pulled off a superb save to stop Jesse Lingard.
The home side had a setback when Marcus Rojo went off injured and replaced by Daley Blind.
Leander Dendoncker went close for the away side when he found himself in a very good position inside the box but his effort went wide. However, Anderlecht got back into the game as Youri Tielemans hit the crossbar and Youri Tielemans smashes the ball home from close range to make it 1-1.
The second half was eventful as the home side look to take charge of the encounter.
Luke Shaw was slide in by Rashford and he squared for Lingard but the defender cleared beautifully. Marouane Fellaini replaced Lingard and nearly put the home side in front with a header but the goalkeeper saved easily.
Rashford hit his right foot shot wide after Zlatan Ibrahimovic set him up with a header. Ibrahimovic also saw a fantastic shot saved by Ruben.
United opened up the visitors nicely and the ball fell to Ibrahimovic but he completely missed target from inside the box to the frustration manager Jose Mourinho.
Mkhitaryan, Pogba and Ibrahimovic combined to setup Rashford but his left foot shot hit the side netting. The away side held on for a 1-1 scoreline at the end of 90minutes and 2-2 on aggregate, so it entered into extra-time.
Ibrahimovic was replaced by Anthony Martial due to injury. Rashford's rabona sets up Pogba, but his over-head kick is blocked.
At the other end, overlapping leftback Ivan Obradovic saw his shot deflected for a corner.
After relentless pressure, United thought they had scored when Pogba put the ball into the net from a Felliani header but the referee adjudged the Belgian to had fouled a defender in the move leading to the goal.
It was one way traffic as the home side dominated possession but the away side held on for a 1-1 scoreline in the first half of extra-time.
Manchester United eventually took the lead as Rashford latched onto a pass from Felliani and coolly beat his marker before finishing with aplomb.
