Fernando Torres capped an emotional return to Stamford Bridge with a heartwarming tweet that he will undoubtedly want every Chelsea fan to read after providing Atletico's goal in the draw against Chelsea on Tuesday.

Torres spent four years at the Bridge and Tuesday night was the first time he's returned since leaving Chelsea in 2015. At 33-years-old, Torres has entered the final few years of his professional career and Tuesday may well have been his last ever visit to Stamford Bridge.

The out of Spain international took to Twitter after the game, saying: "It did not happen, but we will keep on fighting. Thanks to the Stamford Bridge fans for their support, you will be forever in my heart."

With Diego Costa set to complete his move to Atletico next month, the former Liverpool striker knows he faces a lot of competition for minutes, especially with Antoine Griezmann also in the picture.

Chelsea had dominated against Atletico until the opening goal, with Alvaro Morata going close and Hazard almost weaving through the visiting defence.

But Saul Niguez escaped the attention of Tiemoue Bakayoko to plant home a header from Fernando Torres' near-post flick-on after 56 minutes. Chelsea piled forward as time ebbed away, and Stefan Savic turned Eden Hazard's cross into his own net as the pressure told.

For Atletico Madrid, the draw marked the end of a curiously weak Champions League campaign. Draws at home and away to Azerbaijani underdogs Qarabag earlier in the campaign ultimately left them with too much ground to make up as they finished four points shy of Roma and Chelsea.
