Spurs in action against Southampton

Tottenham Hotspur kept their title hopes alive with a hard fought 2-1 win against Southampton at White Hart Lane this afternoon.

The home side raced to a two-goal lead in the first half courtesy Christian Eriksen and Dele Alli but Ward-Prowse ensured for a nervy finish with a second half strike but Mauricio Pochettino’s men held on for their tenth consecutive home win in the premier league which is a club record.

Spurs were without topscorer, Harry Kane due to injury but they showed great motivation to keep pace with Chelsea as they still hope on stealing the premier league title away from their London rivals.

The home side were completely dominant in the first half and they didn’t take long to open the scoring as Danish international, Christian Eriksen received a pass from Dembele, cut inside his marker before beating the keeper from 20yards with a fantastic finish.

The Saints responded when former Chelsea midfielder, Romeu found space from around 25 yards from goal and he fired in a first-time half-volley towards the far corner which fizzes a couple of yards wide.

However, it was the home side that extended their lead as Dele Alli won a penalty and picked himself up to finish it as they went into the break with a 2-0 lead.

Claude Puel’s men came out fighting in the second half and they duly got a goal as James Ward-Prowse pounced on a Ryan Bertrand cross and hit a left foot shot past Hugo Lloris in goal for Spurs.

Southampton were the better side in the second half but Tottenham held on to win 2-1.
