Manchester United has made a late approach to sign Atletico Madrid defender Diego Godin on the Premier League transfer deadline day.

The summer transfer window will come to an end on Thursday 5 pm and Manchester United has failed to land Leicester City centre-back Harry Maguire and Bayern Munich Jerome Boateng and the Old Trafford team has now turned their attention to Uruguayan defender  Godin.

Sky Sports News report that United are chasing a deal for Atletico leader Godin after failing to reach an agreement for their top targets.

Toby Alderweired and Yerry Mina are also on the club’s top list but Tottenham’s valuation of Alderweireld turned Manchester United off the deal while Mina seems to like a move to Everton.

Godin is regarded as one of the best centre-backs in Europe, following his consistent performance for both club and country.
