Super Eagles striker Henry Onyekuru on Monday touched down Munich with his Anderlecht team-mates ahead of their opening UEFA Champions League fixture against Bundesliga Champions Bayern Munich on Tuesday.Bayern München are aiming to revive their masterly home record as they welcome an Anderlecht side back in the group stage after a two-season absence. The Nigerian international who scored twice on Friday as Anderlecht came from behind to beat Lokeren 3-2 in a league game will hope to be at his best form as he gets set to make his Champions League League debut at the Allianz Arena against Carlo Ancelotti's men.Confirming their touchdown in Munich on Monday, Anderlecht on its website posted a video and pictures of Onyekuru and his new team-mates at the airport on arrival.
The German club were on a record 16-game winning streak at home in the UEFA Champions League before a 2-1 loss against eventual champions Real Madrid CF in last season's quarter-final first leg. That set up Bayern's elimination – the first time the Munich giants had failed to reach the semi-finals or better since 2010/11.
Oddly, both Bayern and Anderlecht exited European competition last season in the quarter-finals after losing the tie in extra time away from home against the eventual winners of the competition.Anderlecht are in the group stage for the first time since 2014/15, when they came third in their section. They had finished bottom of the pool in their seven previous group stage campaigns since reaching the last 16 (i.e. qualifying for the second group stage) in 2000/01.
