Barcelona centre-back Samuel Umtiti has compared France current team with the World Cup winning squad of 1998 after their 1-0 win the semifinal clash against Belgium on Tuesday at St Petersburg Stadium in Russia.

Umtiti scored the only goal of the match through a fantastic head that beat the Belgian defence and goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois in the second half of the encounter.

The defender stated that the current team is capable of matching the achievement of the victorious 1998 side.

"It's a huge source of pride," the defender told reporters in Saint Petersburg. "We work a lot, we have done it together.

"I'm the one who scores, but we all had a great game, and that's what it took to get to the final.

"I'm proud of everyone. They did their work in 1998 and now we are doing ours, writing our own history.

"One of our goals was to reach the final, I'm very happy."

France will play against the winner of the other semifinal match between England and Croatia in the finals on Sunday in Moscow.
