The Lagos-based MFM had played against Plateau and lost 1-0 on Saturday in Jos, and were on their way back to Nigeria’s commercial capital when they were involved in the car crash.

Initial reports had claimed Ilechukwu suffered injuries and was in a critical condition, but the club has debunked that.

According to eyewitnesses, the accident occurred at about 5:00pm along Akungba, Owo Road in Ondo State due to a brake failure.
