The excitement of Nigeria’s 2-0 victory against Iceland continues to reverberate weeks after the incident. Russian internet company, Yandex released data this week showing that the most searched item involving Nigerian fans at the World Cup was how a Nigerian fan “blew up” a nightclub in Volgograd.

Ahmed Musa rescued Nigeria's campaign by scoring a brace inside the Volgograd Arena on June 20 after the lost their opening game against Croatia in Kaliningrad by the same scoreline.

It has emerged that Afrobeats star Oritsefemi gave an impromptu 20-minute special to celebrate the victory at a nightclub in Volgograd that night, which has been described by local media company SotsInformByuro as a performance that the bar “will remember for a long time”.

Unknown to the in-house DJ, Oritsefemi requested for a particular song and then went to the microphone to sing. The next 20 minutes became an Afrobeats party as the star held all the guests spellbound including celebrating Nigeria fans and Russians.

A YouTube video shared by the website showed the singer serenading fans with his music as a few revellers tried to take photos with him.

Another Nigerian singer, Timi Dakolo, was in Volgograd during that game. Both singers had talked about travelling 20 hours by train from Moscow after failing to find flight tickets.

It was fitting that Oritsefemi left some pleasant memories for the people of Volgograd, a performance that will be talked about for several years.
