Chelsea hierarchy eager to see Antonio Conte to replace Jose Mourinho at Manchester United if the Portuguese coach was shown the exit door at Old Trafford.

Former Real Madrid and Inter Milan manager position with Red Devils has been under threat since the start of the season, but the pressure has eased slightly following the 3-2 win over Newcastle United on Saturday.

Mourinho set to meet the club executive vice-chairman, Ed Woodward, during the international break, as the 55-year-old coach is reportedly concerned that the club are already planning to sack him with Conte and Zinedine Zidane have been heavily linked with the Manchester United job as both coaches are out of work since leaving Staford Bridge and Santiago Bernabeu last summer.

According to The Daily Telegraph reports that ex-Juventus and Italy boss is due over £9 million as part of his severance package but the dethroned Premier League Champions are reluctant to meet the full pay-out after sacking 49-year-old Italian.

But Conte, who had a contract with Chelsea until the end of this season, would give up a large part of that payment if he decided to take charge of another club in the Premier League and he could forgo as much as £5m if he took over at Manchester United before the end of the year.

Conte, who guided the Blues to the Premier League title and FA Cup during two seasons at Chelsea and the fact he got the best out of Paul Pogba during his time wih Juventus.
