Wigan 1-0 Man City: Latics edge Cityzens to the next round -

Wigan defeated 10-man Manchester City 1-0 in the FA Cup at the DW Stadium on Monday evening as they edged out the Premier League leaders after Will Grigg got the only goal of the match in the 79th minute of the match.

Manchester City pushed high to the opponent's area and they forced the home team to defend so deep in their own half as Bernardo Silva tested Wigan goalkeeper in the opening minute.

Wigan continued to defend in a bid to prevent the City attack from getting a goal, Wigan almost broke the deadlock as Griggs almost put the home team ahead after John Stones failed to mark the attacker who drove in from far to make an attempt but his effort went to the side net.

Wigan had a sharp counter-attack in the 19th minute but it was not properly executed.

The Latics made the first substitute of the game as Nick Powell was replaced by Jay Fulton in the 27th minute, Manchester City wasted some decent scoring opportunity as in the First half.

Fabian Delph was shown a red card after a dreadful challenge on a Wigan player at the end of the first 45 minutes.

The first half ended in Stalemate as the City's attackers were unable to crack down the Wigan defence.

Pep Guardiola made his first substitute as he brought in Kyle Walker for Leroy Sane in the start of the second half, City continue to retain much of the ball and dictate the game but Wigan remained disciplined in the defence. City gradually build the game from behind but the solid defensive display of Wigan ensured the Cityzens remained harmless in front of goal.

Garry Roberts was substituted for Michael Jacobs in the 54th minutes as Wigan made the second change, Gavin Massey was shown a yellow card for a hefty challenge on Danilo in the 58th minute.

Guardiola made his second change as he replaced David Silva with Kevin de Bruyne in the 64th minute.

Manchester City almost got the opener in the 73rd minute but a double block from the from the defence of Wigan ensured the defence remained impregnable, Massey was changed Ryan Colclough in the 76th minute.

Grigg broke the deadlock with 11 minutes to the end after the striker got his break from the midfield after Walker made failed to control a loose ball in the midfield.

City camped round the Latic defence as they seek to get the equalizer.

Wigan held the lead and they ensure they edge out the Cityzens with a lone goal and advance to the next round.
