Zidane aims to win the trophy that is missing in his profile

Real Madrid manager Zinedine Zidane has insisted that he is taking the Copa del Rey matches seriously as he aims to win the title that he is yet to win as a player and as a manager.

The Frenchman was eliminated twice during his time at the Bernabeu dugout in his first spell as a manager and as a player, he suffered two defeats in final in the Copa del Rey.

Real Madrid got to the final of the competition twice when Zidane was a player in Los Blancos' colour but he failed to lift the trophy having suffered a defeat against Deportivo La Coruna in 2002 and Real Zaragoza in 2004.

Zidane has tasted victory in all the tournaments he sits in the dugout as Los Blancos manager but the Copa del Rey is an exception to that, in his four seasons as a coach, Real Madrid had already been eliminated in 2015/16 when he replaced Rafa Benitez and in 2018/19 when he took over from Santiago Solari.

In 2016/17, Celta Vigo stunned the favourites and in 2017/18 it was even more of a shock against neighbours Leganes, who continued the curse upon Zidane in the competition.

Zidane will go all out against Unionistas in the Copa del Rey at the Pistas del Helmántico on Wednesday evening.
