Real Madrid ensured their winning runs continue following a 3-1 win over Espanyol thanks to a goal from Vinicius and a brace from Karim Benzema.

Real Madrid drew the first blood in the 12th minute of the clash following a superb finish from Vinicius, the Brazilian attacker was perfectly served from a pass from Aurelien Tchouameni. Vinicius could have gotten the second goal but his effort was saved by Espanyol goalkeeper Benjamin Lecomte.

Espanyol responded with a Joselu goal after the former Real Madrid starlet fired in a rebound after he broke into the box to make it 1-1 with just two minutes to end the first half.

Real Madrid had much of the ball possession in the first half but it was Espanyol that had more goal attempts and shots on goal, the host had eight goal attempts and three shots on goal as to Real Madrid’s seven-goal attempts and two shots on goal.

Karim Benzema was flagged offside after the French attacker rolled the ball beyond the reach of Espanyol’s goalkeeper, thanks to the intervention of VAR.

Rodrygo set up Benzema to get the winning goal for Real Madrid to ensure Carlo Ancelotti’s men continue their winning run and maintain their 100% record from the start of the season after three rounds of matches played.

Benzema once again forced Lecomte to a wonderful save as the goalkeeper prevented the Frenchman from getting a brace.

Lecomte was shown a red card for his awful tackle on a Real Madrid player, the incident was spotted by VAR and the official gave the goalkeeper his marching order in the additional time.

Benzema made it 1-3 as the Frenchman grabbed a brace, he sent in a bullet from the resulting free-kick to give Real Madrid a fresh breath of air.

The game ended 1-3 in favour of Real Madrid and with the result Real Madrid go to top of the La Liga summit.

Espanyol will take on Athletic Bilbao at San Mames while Real Madrid will welcome Real Betis at Santiago Bernabeu in their next clash in the La Liga.
