Manchester United handed Arsenal their first defeat of the season following a 3-1 win over the high-flying Gunners who maintained a 100% record before the waterloo at Old Trafford in their Premier League clash on Sunday 4th of September.
A goal from debut maker Antony and a brace from Marcus Rashord seal the victory for the Red Devils while Bukayo Saka’s goal was reduced to a mere consolation goal.
Arsenal was denied by VAR in the 12th after Saka’s goal was ruled out due to a foul in the build-up but the Gunners kept the pressure on Manchester United’s defence with Raphael Varane forced into a rough challenge.
Manchester United kept cool and absorbed the pressure and in the 35th minute, the Red Devil had a great break that was led by McTominay he found Bruno Fernandes who spot Marcus Rashford at the edge of the box and released Manchester United’s new boy Antony to put the Old Trafford team ahead, the goal was the difference at the end of the first half.
Arsenal had 54% ball possession and recorded more goal attempts than Manchester United, Arsenal had eight goal attempts while Manchester United had five goals but it was Erik ten Hag’s men that had 3 shots on goal while Arsenal had just one shot on goal for the entirely 45 minutes.
Martin Odegaard was presented with an opportunity to equalise but the Norwegian couldn’t get his angles right, Saka remained a threat to Manchester United’s defence with his cross to the far post denied by the cross-bar.
Erik ten Hag decided to bring on Cristiano Ronaldo for Anthony in the 57th minute as he aim to add another dimension to the attack that seems to be quiet from the start of the second half.
Odegaard sent a through pass to the Manchester United defence and a scrambled sent a loose ball to Saka who made no mistake to slice it past Manchester United’s defence to make it 1-1 in the 60th minute.
Rashord restored the lead in the 65th minute from a defence-splitting pass from Eriksen, Manchester United made the second substitution with Fred in for Sancho immediately after the goal.
Aaron Ramsdale would have gifted Manchester United the third goal but his blunder was covered by his sharp reflex to deny Fernandes from a tight angle.
Arsenal made triple subs Odegaard was substituted for Smith Rowe, Nketiah for Lokonga, and Zinchenko was substituted for Fabio Vieira.
Rashford got the third goal from a break from Arsenal’s high line defence with a tap-in pass from Eriksen in the 76th minute.
Harry Maguire for Lisandro Matinez, Casemiro for Rashford all in for Manchester United, Benwhite for Tomiyastu with 10 minutes left.
The game ended 3-1 with Manchester United marching on, having won four games on a bounce, while Arsenal winning streak came to an end.
