Bayer Leverkusen dug deep to break down Atletico Madrid’s wall in a 2-0 win at the Bay Arena in their Champions League clash on Tuesday evening.

It was a closely contested opening half between Bayer Leverkusen and Atletico Madrid, both teams battled for everything in the first half from ball possession to goal attempts and even shots on goal.

The home team had 49% ball possession while Atletico Madrid had 51% in the first half.
Bayer Leverkusen had seven goal attempts with just one shot on goal while Diego Simeone’s men had six goal attempts and also one shot on goal in the entire first half of the game.

In the second half, the home team took the game to Atletico Madrid as they probe for the first goal but Atletico Madrid’s defence remained intact as they ward off the attacking threat of Bayer Leverkusen.

Bayern Leverkusen got what they were out for in the second half, thanks to a goal from Robert Andrich and Moussa Diaby in the 84th and 87th minute respectively were enough to make the difference between both teams at the Bay Arena, with the result Atletico Madrid dropped to the third position in the Group B standing behind Bayer Leverkusen and Club Brugge who had six points from their two games.

Atletico Madrid will take a trip to Belgium to play Club Brugge while Bayer Leverkusen will also be away to FC Porto in their next Champions League matches.
