Real Madrid manager Carlo Ancelotti has revealed why Real Madrid suffered a defeat in the first leg of the semi-finals of the Champions League to Manchester City at the Etihad Stadium.

Pep Guardiola’s men defeated Real Madrid 4-3 to have the advantage of advancing to the Champions League finals.

Ancelotti claimed that his players approached the game poorly with his team conceding two early goals before they made it 2-1, 3-1, 3-2, 4-2 and then 4-3.

“We started very badly, we were too soft. We conceded two goals and from then on we showed what we have shown in recent times, a great capacity to react.

“We were in the game until the end, we competed. We have to defend better. We did well with the ball, with many chances. For the second leg, we have to defend better, it’s too important.”

All attention will be on the return leg of the clash at the Santiago Bernabeu, to see if Real Madrid can turn this around like the previous fixtures.
