Another injury problem for Super Eagles manager Jose Peseiro ahead of Nigeria’s upcoming friendly match against Algeria on September 27, 2022.

Umar Sadiq joined Real Sociedad on the deadline day of the transfer window from Almeria before he scored on his debut against Atletico Madrid last weekend.

The 25-year-old-born attacker was handed his first La Liga start for the White and Blue away against Getafe but Super Eagles striker lasted 37th minutes as he limped off injured after sustaining a knee injury.

Things are not looking too good at the moment considering that Sadiq returned to the bench on crutches after going to the dressing room as Real Sociedad share on their Twitter handle

 

Sadiq becomes the second Super Eagles striker to be injured inside a week after Victor Osimhen sustain an injury during Napoli’s 4-1 bashing of Liverpool in their Champions League group stage opener at Diego Armando Maradona Stadium.

Former Rangers and AS Roma star looks certain to miss the next Super Eagles assignment as will scuttle Peseiro’s plans for the September 27 friendly match against Algeria in Oran.

The Portuguese coach has plenty of injury concerns with the Nigeria trio of Jamilu Collins, Akinkunmi Amoo, and Samson Tijani ruled out for the rest of the season.

Super Eagles manager Peseiro will be monitoring developments in Basque Country with keen interest as he is expected to announce his squad list for the first international break of the season within the next one week.

Sadiq made his European debut in Thursday’s 1-0 win over Manchester United in the Europa League and has been capped seven times and scored one goal against Guinea-Bissau at the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations.
