Another new signing Matthijs de Ligt has expressed his reasons why he rejects Chelsea for Bayern Munich.
The 22-year-old Netherland international has been heavily linked with a switch to Stamford Bridge from Allianz Stadium this summer as Thomas Tuchel’s parotise centre-back renforcement to fill the viod after Antonio Rudiger and Andreas Bødtker Christensen leaves the Blues on a free transfer.
Chelsea was desperate to match the £56m bid of Bayern Munich for Matthijs de Ligt but former Ajax but couldn’t sway his mind as he preffered to ply his trade in Bundesliga rather Premier League.
Matthijs de Ligt is not the only player that have turned the opportunity to moves to two time Champions League winning team after French defender Jules Kounde and Brazillain forward Raphinha rejects a move to West London outfit for Barcelona.
The Dutchman explains his reasons to ESPN like his fellow center-back Jules Kounde did recently. “First of all, the club,” when discussing his reasons for joining Bayern Munich ahead of Chelsea.
“The board showed me they really wanted me, that says a lot because it’s important for me. The club suits me: attacking football, hard training, high intensity. That’s what I’m looking for.
“I knew about the coach [Julian Nagelsmann] before because he’s a famous coach in the football world. I know how he plays and that he’s really good in training young players. That’s good, but the most important thing was the confidence that the club had in me.”
De Ligt has lifted his first trophy as a Bayer Munich player after making his official debut last weekend by replacing Dayot Upamecano 12 minutes from time.
With goals from Jumal Musiala, Sadio Mane, Benjamin Pavard, Serge Gnabry and Leroy Sane ensured the DFL-Supercup 5-3 win over RB Leipzig on Saturday.
De Ligt will aiming to kick start his career in Bundesliga as Bayern Munich face Eintracht Frankfurt on 5 August in the season opener.
