Another Nigerian star Alhassan Yusuf has been named Player of the Month for August by the Belgian Jupiler Pro League outfit Royal Antwerp.

The 22-year-old Kano-born midfielder has been a revelation for Mark Van Bommel-led side this season, marshaling their midfield alongside Gerkens and former Roma and Inter Milan ace Radja Nainggolan.

Yusuf has seen his stock rise under former Barcelona and Bayern Munich midfielder took charge of the Belgian club in May 2022 after managerial stints with Wolfsburg in the German Bundesliga and PSV Eindhoven in the Dutch Eredivisie.

The Nigerian rising star has nailed down a starting spot in the Royal Antwerp squad just one year after joining from Swedish side IFK Gothenburg.

Yusuf was so outstanding to beat three other nominees for the top individual prize as Antwerp has won all seven league matches this season to sit top of the table with 21 points five clear of closest rivals Paul Onuachu’s Genk.

Yusuf has already made 13 appearances and provided two assists for Royal Antwerp this season in all competitions.

Royal Antwerp will expect to maintain their unbeaten streak in the Belgian Pro League when they face bottom-placed Cercle Brugge away at the Jan Breydel Stadium on Sunday, September 11.
