Barcelona will aim to forget their poor start to La Liga as they take on Real Sociedad at the Donostia-San Sebastian this weekend.

Barcelona manager Xavi Hernandez is prepared to hand Miralem Pjanic the opportunity to start against Real Sociedad following the sent-off of their captain Sergio Busquets in the 0-0 draw against Rayo Vallecano in their La Liga opener at the Camp Nou.

Busquets was shown the second yellow card at the end of the game for an elbow on Rayo Vallecano attacker Ramadal Falcao to this effect Xavi has turned to Pjanic for a rare start.

The Bosnian midfielder was sent on loan to Besiktas last season, he is yet to start a match for Barcelona since the 24th of February 2021.

Pjanic put in some excellent show in the pre-season and Xavi is convinced that he can fight for a slot in the team following his pre-season exploits, his stay has made Barcelona release Nico Gonzalez on loan to Valencia.

The report in Sport claim that Pjanic is highly likely to start against La Real on Sunday.

Few Barcelona midfielders have been able to replicate the performance of Busquets in the midfield and his absence will greatly be felt but the Bosnian star is tipped to do a great job as the midfielder due to his pre-season performance.

Real Sociedad midfielders are one of the best in the La Liga and facing the likes of Mikel Merino and David Silva is a huge task for Pjanic as playing well in the pre-season is quite different in a competitive match.

Pjanic will be under intense pressure from Real Sociedad midfielders who will also feel comfortable with the fact that they are playing in front of their fans.
