Barcelona new signing Jules Kounde has informed the club’s manager Xavi Hernandez of his role on the pitch following the need for a right back in the squad.

Kounde expressed his desire to the manager and informed him that he does not want to play right-back this season following his move from Sevilla this summer.

Barcelona seems short of options at the right back and Xavi is keen on deploying Kounde in that position but the French defender is not interested in that position on the pitch.

Barcelona was in the market for a right-back option but somehow they missed out on their targets, the likes of Cesar Azpilicueta and Noussair Mazraoui were sought for but none was signed.

In the clash against Rayo Vallecano Ronald Araujo was deployed in the position, while Sergino Dest was left out of the squad, Xavi wants Kounde to slot into that position but the defender has already chatted with Xavi and made it clear it’s not a position he wants to play in at Barcelona, according to Diario AS.

The report also reveals that one of the reasons Kounde turned down a move to Chelsea was because coach Thomas Tuchel suggested he could play at right-back if Cesar Azpilicueta left.

Kounde played in that position for France but was not a comfortable role for him and for the national team he played on at the right back against Bosnia but was shown a red card for his horrible tackle against Sead Kolasnic.

Kounde was a role at the centre-back position at Barcelona and hopefully earn a mark to make the France World Cup team.

Barcelona played a goalless draw against Rayo Vallecano in their opening game, a situation Xavi will aim to arrest in their match against Real Sociedad if he wants his team to remain competitive in the La Liga this season.
