Barcelona was dumped out of the Europa League against Eintracht Frankfurt at the Camp Nou on Thursday evening but the Catalan giant should be prepared for another loss following Pedri’s injury.
Pedri was taken off at halftime against the German opponent in the 3-2 defeat in the UEFA Europa League quarter-final second leg with the club confirming that the midfielder was substituted due to hamstring concerns.
Pedri is expected to go through some medical examination to know the extent of the injury as no information has been concrete at this point, Mundo Deportivo journalist Fernando Polo has claimed that there is a lot of ‘pessimism’ around the midfielder’s latest injury situation.
The reporter adds that it would be ‘complicated’ for Pedri to play again in the ongoing campaign.
Xavi: “If there was a failure, there is learning”
When manager Xavi Hernandez was asked about the Spaniard’s situation after the game, he did not sound too optimistic either, saying (h/t GOAL): “Pedri worries me, let’s see what he has. It’s very bad news.”
Pedri, 19, missed the greater part of the season due to hamstring related issues, he played 22 games in all competition for Barcelona this season before his substitution against Frankfurt.
Barcelona will take on Cadiz on Monday evening at the Camp Nou in their next outing in the La Liga.
