Barcelona has set the release clause of defender Ronald Araujo to one billion euros following the Uruguayan extension of his deal at the Camp Nou.

Araujo signed a four-year extension which will keep him at the club till 2026.

The Uruguayan previous deal is expected to expire in 2023 but his tremendous performance has seen Barcelona tie down his contract on time.

The defender is one of the best players at Xavi’s disposal and he forms part of the future team the club is gradually building.

Araujo talks about his new contract
“I’m really happy to be able to stay here, to stay for many more years,” Araujo said after renewing.

“It is the fruit of a lot of hard work, so I thank all the coaches who have helped me.

“When I came to the club and joined the B team, it was a tremendous thing to get to the first team.

“I remember the first time I went to the Camp Nou and I saw how the people cheered for Luis Suarez and my wish was that one day they would cheer for me.
