Belgium club Royal Antwerp is shocked after Nigeria Football Federation cancels Super Eagles call-up for Kano-born midfielder Alhassan Yusuf ahead of an international friendly match against Algeria.

The 22-year-old former IFK Göteborg star has been a revelation for Mark Van Bommel-led side this season, marshaling their middle of the pack alongside Gerkens and former Roma and Inter Milan ace Radja Nainggolan.

Yusuf often dubbed the ‘next Kante’ due to his energetic style has nailed down a starting spot in the Royal Antwerp squad just one year after joining from the Swedish side.

The young Nigerian midfielder has been outstanding this season as he was voted the club’s best player for August.

But according to ScoreNigeria reveal that Royal Antwerp held back the announcement of the cancellation of the invitation from Yusuf until after the club’s 2-1 win against RC Seraing during the weekend because they did want to affect his performance.

However, the sources close to the box-to-box midfielder claim the Kano-born player is not upset by this most recent development and has been fairly certain that he will represent Nigeria whenever God so chooses.

Yusuf has now encountered two set back-to features for Jose Peseiro’s side after missing Super Eagles American tour where they played against Ecuador and Mexico due to visa and passport hitches.

Yusuf has helped Royal Antwerp to win nine straight games of the season so far and lead the Belgian Pro League table with 27 points five over nearest rival KRC Genk.
