Real Madrid attacker Karim Benzema is set to beat Raul Gonzalez’s record after the Frenchman led the La Liga leaders to another comeback against Sevilla.
Benzema is closing on being Real Madrid’s second all-time scorer in the history of the game following their 3-2 win against Sevilla, with just six goals behind Raul.
The French striker has scored 51 goals ahead of Alfredo Di Stefano who is idolised as one of the greatest strikers in the history of the game.
The former Lyon attacker has scored 39 goals this season in all competitions including his winning goal against Sevilla at the Sanchez Pizjuan on Sunday and his 318th for the club since arriving from Lyon back in the summer transfer window of 2009.
Benzema has taken the goal-scoring responsibility on himself since the departure of Cristiano Ronaldo to Juventus and now to Manchester United.
Benzema has helped Real Madrid eliminate Paris Saint-Germain and Chelsea in the Champions League with his back to a back hat-trick and he is gradually guiding Real Madrid to another La Liga title with his late goal in the clash against the Andalusian side.
