Real Madrid attacker Karim Benzema sent a message to Cristiano Ronaldo after his hat-trick against Chelsea at Stamford Bridge in the first leg of their Champions League quarter-finals clash.

Real Madrid showed a commanding display as the Spanish team defeated the Blues 3-1. The visitors recorded their first-ever Champions League victory against the two-time winners.

The victory was underscored by Benzema’s superlative display which comes after bagging the same feat in the previous match against a start studded PSG team. The French attacker become the fourth player to achieve this in the history of the competition; adding his name to a very short list of legendary forwards namely Manchester United star Ronaldo, Lionel Messi and Luiz Adriano who have also achieved the same in the past.

The Frenchman is also the first player to score a hat-trick against Chelsea in European competition. He has now scored 82 Champions League goals; just three behind third-placed Robert Lewandowski in the overall rankings.

Benzema was quick to recognize the efforts of his former teammate Ronaldo after lots of ovation was showered on him for his magical moment against the current European Champions. In an interview with L’Équipe, he said “People talk about how much I helped Cristiano, but he really helped me a lot too. He’s the player who gave me the most assists”.
