Chelsea star Cesar Azpilicueta will not listen to offers from Barcelona as he prepared for contract extension talks with the Stamford Bridge team, according to to report in Marca.

The captain is prepared for a contract renewal with the club’s management and the idea of joining Barcelona has been put on hold at least for this season.

The Chelsea captain was keen on the move at the initial stage with Barcelona also going strong for the former Olympique Marseille defender, but the Spanish international has changed his mind about joining Xavi Hernandez’s men for the coming season.

Although Chelsea is unwilling to let one of their senior players leave the club following the exit of leaders in the team over the previous years with Eden Hazard and Thibaut Courtois joining Real Madrid and this season Anthony Rudiger and Andres Christensen have made a move to Real Madrid and Barcelona respectively.

The club’s new owners were unwilling to match Azpilicueta’s offer but they have come to terms with the defender and they are ready to keep the promise made by their predecessors.

Chelsea raised the transfer fee of the defender beyond what Barcelona could offer and the move was delayed because of Barcelona’s stressed financial position.

Azpilicueta wants his contract issue to be settled before the start of a new season and he is prepared to listen to the club he has spent his best playing time and he is set for a two-year contract renewal.
