Chelsea is targeting their first Emirate FA Cup win over London rival Crystal Palace in the second semi-fain at Wembley Stadium on Sunday afternoon.
Thomas Tuchel’s side will be looking to maintain only silverware available this season to avenge their Caroboa Cup defeat earlier in the year, while Patrick Veira’s men hoping pull off a shock and reach their second final in six years to battle Liverpool in the final next month.
Chelsea shifts their attention to the FA Cup after their Champions League exit from Crystal Palace which they have not beaten in the competition in 51 years.
Sunday’s semi-final between Chelsea and Palace will be their seventh meeting in the oldest cup competition in the world with the Blues triumphing on two occasions, while the Eagles have the edge with three victories and one fixture ending in a stalemate.
However, both sides’ last encounter in this tie was back in 1976 in the fifth round of the FA Cup as Palace overpower Chelsea and progressed by winning 3-2.
Chelsea’s last taste victory over Palace in the tournament comes in the 1971 third-round replay with 2-0 win after the first leg at Selhurst Park ended 2-2.
The eight-time winners look strong over Palace going into the semi-finals but the Eagles will be looking to make only their third FA Cup final appearance in their history after their two other appearances in 1990 and 2016 saw them lose to Manchester United both times.
Tuchel will be hoping to lift the FA Cup after last season’s final which Chelsea lost to Brenda Rogers’s Leicester City courtesy of Youri Tieleman’s wonder strike.
