Former Chelsea defender Antonio Rudiger has sent a comeback stronger message to Super Eagles player Umar Sadiq after an injury setback.

The 25-year-old Nigeria international handed his first La Liga start for Real Sociedad last weekend but the Kaduna-born goalscorer sustain sustaining a knee injury during his side’s 2-1 defeat at Getafe on Sunday night.

Sadiq has now suffered an anterior cruciate ligament rupture that will need surgery and the Olympics Bronze medalist is now expected to miss the remainder of the 2022-23 campaign.

Real Sociedad confirmed on their social media handle that the Nigerian striker will undergo surgery in the coming days.

Rudiger, who was Sadiq’s teammate during their time at Serie A club, AS Roma, took his official Instagram to handle to wish his friend a quick recovery and comeback stronger.

Sadiq joined Real Sociedad from Almeria on transfer deadline day to replace departing Swedish striker Alexander Isak, who has a big money move to Newcastle United in the Premier League.

The White and Blues number 25 number becomes the second Super Eagles player to be injured inside a week after Victor Osimhen sustain a thigh injury in Napoli’s 4-1 win over Liverpool in their Champions League opener.

Sadiq has joined Jamilu Collins, Akinkunmi Amoo, and Samson Tijani ruled out for the rest of the season, while Semi Ajayi, faces a lengthy spell out after sustaining a knee injury during West Brom’s 1-1 score draw with Wigan 30th of August.

Sadiq made his European debut in Thursday’s 1-0 win over Manchester United in the Europa League and has been capped seven times and scored one goal against Guinea-Bissau at the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations.
