Super Falconet let late again as Esther Onyenezide’s wonder goal send Nigeria into the quarter-final of FIFA U-20 women’s World Cup after a 1-0 win over South Korea in their second Group C encounter in Costa Rica.

With the tight contest, the match was initially delayed over inclement weather as the pitch was waterlogged.

Falconets created the first attempt on goal in the third minute through Bashirat Amoo, who tried a long-range effort from a free kick but was calmly saved by keeper Kim Kyeong-Hee.

Four minutes later South Korea went close but Chun Ga-Ram’s effort went wide the encounter was heading for a goalless draw when Onyenezide scores a stunning strike in the 82nd minute to Nigeria a deserving lead.

The Koreans pour forward for the equalizer but could not break down a resilient Falconets defence.

The coach Christopher Danjuma-tutored side will face Canada in their final group game on Wednesday by 3am Nigerian time.
