Super Eagles striker Terem Moffi was on target again as Lorient beat Taribo West’s former club AJ Auxerre 3-1 in the Ligue 1 encounter at Stade de l’Abbe-Deschamps to level on points with league leaders PSG.
The 23-year-old Nigeria international battled with his form for the majority of 2021–22 and has displayed ruthlessness in his play this year for FC Lorient after having five goals in his team’s first seven games of the season and aimed to keep up his strong play as his team traveled to face Auxerre.
After just 15 minutes of play, the visitors seized the lead thanks to winger Dango Ouattara, 20, of Burkina Faso and the youngster scored the team’s fourth goal of the year with it.
Moffi added his name to the scoreboard in the 36th minute so he wouldn’t be left out when he ghosted into the right spot to plant a firm header into the back of the net from close range.
The Calabar-born striker has six goals in eight outings for his club this season, a vast improvement from his tally of eight goals in 37 appearances in 2021-22.
Enzo Le Fee added a third goal three minutes before halftime for FC Lorient but Gauthier Hein reduce the score to 3-1 for Auxerre in the 50th minute.
Super Eagles midfielder Innocent Bonke came in for FC Lorient in the second half after 72 minutes, he replaced Julien Ponceau.
With their victory, Lorient has moved up to third position in Ligue 1 with 19 points, level with leaders Paris Saint-Germain and Olympique Marseille albeit with one more game played than both clubs.
