Liverpool through to the semi-finals for the 12th time after a six-goal thriller at Anfield with a 3-3 score draw to remain on course for a historic quadruple
Jurgen Klopp’s men lead the first leg in the quarter-final tie 3-1 in Lisbon but the Reds extended their advantage with another Ibrahima Konate’s powerful 21st-minute header from a Kostas Tsimikas corner.
However, Benfica equalised through Goncalo Ramos’ excellent turn and finish in the 37th minute of the game before Brazilian striker Roberto Firmino put Liverpool in control of the encounter with a brace in the 55th minute and ten minutes later.
But after Roman Yaremchuk pulled one back for the visitor in the 73rd minute of the clash to make 3-2 on the night, Darwin Nunez scored a late equaliser.
Nunez came close to sealing the victory for Benfica but was denied by Alisson as Liverpool equalled Manchester United’s record for an English club to reach the last four of the tournament and they remain insight of a third Champions League final appearance in five seasons under Klopp.
Liverpool will now shift their focus to face Premier League title rival Manchester City on Sunday in the semi-final of the Emirate FA Cup before hosting Villarreal on 27 April and return leg in Spain on 4th May.
