Roma became the first winners of the Europa Conference League after beating Feyenoord 1-0 meaning Jose Mourinho remains unbeaten in major European finals.

Mourinho during the thrilling match saw to it that his side (ROMA) defended heroically for large parts and got their winning goal with their first shot on goal when Nicolo Zaniolo skilfully prodded home after 32 minutes.

Roma, whose only previous continental title was the old Fairs Cup in 1961, held off a spirited comeback from their Dutch opponents, who were twice denied by the woodwork in the second half.

Italy international Zaniolo struck with a well-taken finish in the 32nd minute to earn Roma their first trophy of any kind since 2008 and cap a successful first season for coach Jose Mourinho in Rome.

“It was a real struggle but I’m really happy,” Zaniolo said to Skysports.

“It was my dream and now I’ve done it.” he added.

Over 50,000 fans packed the Stadio Olimpico in the Italian capital to watch their team make a little piece of history in Albania.

How Roma reacted to winning the inaugural ECL title

“The great thing about my career is that, aside from the Europa League with Manchester United, doing it with Porto, Inter and Roma is very, very, very special.

“It’s one thing to win when everyone expects it, when you made the investments to win, but it’s quite another to win when something remains immortal, that feels truly special.

“I think of myself, of course, but above all the Roma fans who can celebrate tonight, enjoy themselves and remember this night forever.”

Fabrizio Romano tweets Mourinho’s statement about his future at Roma
