Nigeria Football Federations have targeted Tottenham Hotspur Golden Boy nominee Destiny Udogie to play Super Eagles after the latest snubbed by Italy coach Roberto Mancini.
Former Manchester City manager passed over the on-loan Udinese left-back for the Azzurri 1-0 win over England at San Siro on Friday night in the UEFA Nations League games plus the upcoming clash against Hungary.
Udogie would have become cap-tied to his nation of birth if he had been selected for Italy and played in either of the two matches.
According to various reports in the Italian media including Mondo, Udinese claim that Nigeria Football Federations failed in their initial attempt to recruit Udogie to the Super Eagles, but they may try one more time.
If Udogie decided to play for the three-time African champions, he would represent the Super Eagles for the next fifteen years given his age of nineteen, injury permitting.
Since playing his first competitive game for Italy’s U17 squad in a European Championship qualification against Romania in March 2019, Udogie has been proviso-cap-tied to Italy.
He has had a fine start to the 2022-2023 season with two assists in six appearances for surprise package Udinese, who are third in the table after seven rounds.
Udogie played the entirety of the second half as Italy U21s were beaten 2-0 by England in a friendly on Thursday.
